Media Matters for America – a progressive, Washington, D.C-based, nonprofit research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media – seeks a candidate with extensive experience executing social media and email strategies to serve as the Digital Content Manager in the Research and Engagement Department.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Digital Content Manager oversees Media Matters social media, email, and paid advertisement strategies and supports the operation and optimization of the organization’s websites and CRM tools. The Digital Content Manager manages social media platforms on a day-to-day basis and supervises the digital and design teams in the production of creative content for Media Matters online audiences.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

  • Reports To: The Digital Content Manager reports to the News Director.

  • Reporting To: The Design Manager and Digital Producers will report to the Digital Content Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Digital Platforms: The Digital Content Manager will oversee the digital footprint of Media Matters, including all social media platforms; email; websites and microsites, including forms; and paid advertisements. The Digital Content manager will help guide the look and feel of all of Media Matters digital properties.

  • Social Media Content Creation: The Digital Content Manager will manage content creation for social media platforms, including original content creation for Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, and ads on those platforms. The Digital Content Manager will also manage ads for search engines.

  • Advocacy and Fundraising Support: The Digital Content Manager will coordinate social media, email, and related assets surrounding Media Matters campaigns, events, and fundraisers in conjunction with staff campaigners. He/she will help maintain related CRM tools and technology.

  • Analytics: The Digital Content Manager will oversee analytics tracking for all social platforms and the website and use the data to improve Media Matters’ reach and impact.

  • SEO and Headline Coordination: The Digital Content Manager will work with departments to shape headlines and frame content to optimize it for Media Matters various audiences, paying special attention to SEO strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two to five years of experience working in digital media, including managing/overseeing social media platforms.  Please list any and all social media platforms you have professional experience with.

  • Strong knowledge digital best practices, including SEO and related tools (e.g., Google Analytics and/or Google Search Console), an understanding of nonprofit advocacy and fundraising, ability to use Facebook Ads Manager and Google Ads Manager, and familiarity with email and web production tools and related technology, including CRM and CMS systems.

  • Interest in the news media and the effects conservative misinformation has on our public debate, specifically in how misinformation travels in digital spaces.

  • Understanding of the 24-hour news cycle and how to identify elements with viral potential.

  • Experience creating successful digital content on various platforms.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, and preferably knowledge of other digital production tools.

  • Ability to be a self-starter who can excel both independently and in a team setting.

  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask and quickly adapt to new challenges.

  • Ability to manage a team with diverse responsibilities.
